Happy 2013!

Happy New Year CMF-ers! Hope you all had a beautiful Christmas and are enjoying the start to 2013.

We had our first meal of the year last night and as usual it was amazing! Just in time for Burn’s Night we had gorgeous “Haggis, neeps and Tatties” cooked by the lovely Pam and Simon at their home. It was great to see everyone there, thank you so much to all who came and shared around ideas for the upcoming events week.

We’re really excited about the work we’re going to be able to doing alongside the Christian Union during their Events Week as we try and spread the Gospel at Foresterhill as well. As soon as we know a final program of events for our Campus we’ll let you know. If you want something to be thinking about in the meantime - we know for sure there’ll be a lovely bake sale/give away so get thinking of your best baked good that you can sell! Yes boys - even you can bake, maybe just ask a female to help?

If you think you could help in anyway during Events Week, or have any ideas on events send us an email, we’d love to hear from you!

Take a look at our previous posts for more information on becoming a member and the CMF National Student Conference in February, if you would like any more information feel free to come and talk to us, or send us an email at cmfaberdeen@gmail.com.

Keep a look out for more information about the upcoming Events Week (11th-15th February) as well as out next Student-Doctor Meal.

That’s all for now everyone, have a lovely weekend :)

Lots of Love
Sophie & Beth

Christmas is coming ...

Hi everyone!

Welcome to December! Hope you are all well during this extremely cold time of year - how exciting that Christmas is only 25 days away now!

Just over two weeks ago we had another delicious CMF Meal, with a great talk from Willie Harrison on the topic of Shining like Stars, looking at the passage from Philippians 2:14-18.

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.

It always important to remember that this means we must take every opportunity to share our faith with other on our course and within our work place. We are commanded to be stars and stars may look small from our perspective but they are not. They are huge suns millions of miles in diameter. He makes our lives something that is not to be hidden from others. We are to SHINE.

If you really enjoyed this meal, we have another one coming up really soon! The annual CMF Christmas Meal is just around the corner, and whether you’ve been to none of the meals so far, or to every single of them you are most definitely welcome here. There are 25 of us going so far but would love to have a full house, bursting with fellowship and banter! So please RSVP here (http://www.facebook.com/events/281113215324406/) on the facebook event, or send us a quick email @ (cmfaberdeen@gmail.com) letting us know you can come along with any dietary requirements. Very excited for this!

Another really exciting event coming up next term is the CMF National Student Conference in February, the 8th-10th to be precise. It’s going to be awesome - here's the official promo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trOy0or4-wU Here's where you can  book: http://www.cmf.org.uk/students/national-student-conference/ and here's more information: http://admin.cmf.org.uk//pdf/events/2013_student_conf.pdf

Sophie Gerring is going, so if anybody else would like to come please book (you get an early bird discount before 21st December AND you get a £10 discount if you're a member of CMF and book online!) If you are interested in going contact us ASAP. It would be great to see more representation from Aberdeen so please do think about coming if you can. Also if you would like to come, can drive, and would be up for an 8 hour road trip feel free to volunteer!

Also let’s try and represent Aberdeen even more by getting a few more members! It’s great to see so many people turning out for these meals but would be even better if you could all become “official members” (details here) - £6 for the first 18 months is a bargain at just over 33p a month, and think of the amazing meal you get for that! Worth it we’d say!

That’s all for now! See you on the 11th of December!
Lots of love Beth & Sophie :)

Back to Blogging

Hi there!

Bet you haven’t seen this blog in action for a while, or maybe you didn’t even know it existed, but as we take over CMF for this academic year (and maybe longer if we like you guys) we’d love to have it up and running again to let you know what’s going on!

For everyone who is new to CMF this year; Doctor or Student, WELCOME! The Christian Medical Fellowship is an organisation aimed at Christians that are involved in the medical profession whatever denomination of Christianity they may be from. CMF has over 4000 Doctors and 1000 medical students representing it from the 40 medical schools around the UK, and is still growing. Regular journals are sent out to all official members containing articles about ethical issues and each individual medical school has events unique to it to being the Doctors and Students together and help them learn what it means to practise Christian medicine.

In Aberdeen we meet every month to have a lovely meal at a local Doctors’ house which is followed by a short talk or discussion relating to the issues that surround being a Christian within the medical profession. There are also regular prayer meetings on the medical campus and this year we are looking to integrate ourselves more with Christian Union enabling more events at Foresterhill. You may have seen us at the Medics Freshers’ Fayre where we signed up over 15 first years to our mailing list which was great, but if you didn’t manage to catch us there just drop us an email and we can add you to the mailing list now. If you would like any more information about CMF or are interested in becoming a member, email cmfaberdeen@gmail.com or visit http://www.cmf.org.uk/students/join-cmf/ to sign up officially!

Our first event of the year was a great success a few weeks ago, as we shared a gorgeous meal and fellowship together and heard from … on the topic of … It was lovely to see so many new members there but would be even better if you could all become “official members” (details here) - £6 for the first 18 months is a bargain at just over 33p a month, and think of the amazing meal you get for that! Worth it we’d say!

Our next meal is in 2 days on Thursday the 8th of November; if you'd like to come please send us an email or click 'yes' on our facebook event. Don't forget to let us know about any dietary requirements. It would be lovely to see you there again.

This year we are hoping to integrate ourselves more within the CU at Aberdeen University. We will always be two different societies but we are really excited about working together to bring some events to Foresterhill. If you have any ideas or suggestions for things that could go on, we’d love to hear from you so you can drop us an email if you want!

That’s all for now, hope to see you again soon!
Lots of love, your CMF Student Reps (Sophie + Beth)

Electives Evening

Are you a returning third year who is going to have to come up with an elective for this year? Are you a fourth year who is going on one and wants a few tips? Or are you a first or second year who wonders what electives are all about? Well, this coming weekend, all your questions will be answered!

This Saturday (the 15th May), CMF is hosting an Electives Night starting at 7.00pm, where between courses of the amazing dinner that's always provided, we'll hear from a few folks who have been away on their electives recently, what they got up to and some do's and dont's.

It's being hosted by the Green's (who live out near Cults) so if you'd like to come and need transport please drop me an email at erlove88@googlemail.com and we'll arrange something. Also, if you'd like to come and have a car, please let me know how many spaces you might have available. The event is open to all, whether members of CMF, Christians or not and promises to be a really good evening so it would be awesome if you could come.

Also, CMF is having a bake-sale this Friday from 11-2 in the Suttie Centre Foyer so please come along with your pennies and good appetites!

Public meeting on the implications of the 'End of Life Assistance Bill' for our society

Hi all,

On Wednesday 5th May at 7.00pm at the Citadel, Castlegate, Aberdeen there's a public meeting on the implications of the end of life bill for doctors and society were it to be put in place. There will be several presentations - from doctors currently working in Palliative care among others- and this will be followed by a question and answer session with tea and coffee afterwards.

For all those interested in the possible shape of our healthcare and society in the future, this evening could be of considerable interest and it would be great if you were to come along. It would be great to see you there.

PS> we are also looking for two more people to help as ushers, so if you feel you have the time to spare, please drop me a line on erlove88@googlemail.com thank you!
